A New Chapter Begins: Mary Help of Christians, Shillong Province Welcomes New Leadership
The Mary Help of Christians, Shillong Province joyfully announces the dawn of a new chapter in its history with the canonical appointment and installation of its new Provincial Superior and her Council. The solemn installation ceremony was presided over by His Grace, Most Rev. Victor Lyngdoh, Archbishop of Shillong Archdiocese, on Tuesday, 6th January 2026.
The historic event was graced by the presence of Sr. Bridgid Diengdoh, General Councillor for Evangelization, and Delegate of the Superior General, and witnessed by many sisters from neighboring communities, marking a profound moment of unity and transition.
The Eucharistic celebration commenced with a poignant candle light procession. The flame, ignited from the Tomb of our Holy Founder, was carried forward in a powerful symbol of continuity, passing on the undying light of his spirit, his faithfulness, passion, and enduring legacy of love and service to the newly appointed leaders of the Province.
In his insightful homily, Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh reflected on the sacred dimension of leadership. He reminded the gathering that to be chosen as a leader is a divine call to authentic service, love, and sacrifice, transcending mere title or authority. “Love is the foundation of all leadership,” he emphasized, “from which every other ministry must flow.” He heartened the new leadership team to be women of deep love, a unifying presence, and attentive listeners, noting that “leadership is strongest where all work with loving collaboration, sharing in ministry, and trusting God to provide the increase.”
During the solemn prayer said by Sr. Brigid Diengdoh, invited the assembly on behalf of the province, to offer prayerful support for our leaders as they embark on this journey of service, inspired by our founding charism and united in faith and purpose.
